Happy New Year!

It sure is cold and windy today!  Sam and I ran to Walmart in preparation for the snow coming Monday or Tuesday!  We moved some boxes of pictures from the garage to the house before we left, so we will have a big project to work on IF it snows here!

I have meant to update this for soooo long.  But time gets away.  We have gotten lots done, and we were able to have a surprise party for Andrew's 30th birthday in December.  Pete started the kitchen backsplash, and that's huge!  It's been so long.  We still don't have a definite date from (anyone?  anyone?) about starting the upstairs, but I trust we can do it in the spring!

I thought I'd most some pictures of what we have gotten done so far!

These above are just a reminder to me of not long ago!

Well, I just realized that I need to take more kitchen pictures!  It's been a struggle to get all of the cabinet doors in.  We still don't have all of the correct ones - but we're close.  And that's going to have to be good enough.  I think the kitchen turned out great - especially since we did most of it ourselves with the help of the kitchen planner at Lowe's.  The backsplash will add so much.  I am thinking of painting the island side and back a bluer blue.  But I'm waiting to see after the backsplash is done.

I know that I need more bathroom pictures too!  We are so happy with the bathroom.  The floors, the shower, the vanity, all of it.  We only need to paint the ceiling (???), and it will be mostly done.  It's pretty and easy to clean and has lots of storage.  Right now, it's our only bathroom; and it's holding up really well!  I love the big apron sinks in the vanity.  They are so easy to clean and so big!  I love the tile on the floor.  It's such a pretty blue.  Dennis, the contractor, did an excellent job on the tile.  The shower is great too.  It's bigger than I thought it would be, and I love the glass sliding door.

The antique secretary just fit into the corner.  I did not want to leave it out, so I am happy it fits there behind the door.  We found some neat papers hidden in it.  My dad took some - one was the deed to the land a house his dad built when my dad was a little boy sat on.

The Wizard of Oz pillow is one my grandmother "remade" for me.  And if you know about my hunt for blue curtains, you know I got my curtains on sale at 1/3 of the price.  The built ins are lined with blue and white wrapping paper to add character to the boring backs.

This is the hunt board Pete's dad built him for his graduation from Appalachian State.  I'm covering it with framed pictures of family.  It's still a work in progress.

The brick fireplace is painted a very very light blue.  It was a yellow brick, so I did not feel bad about painting it!  It really made it cozier.  I gave the green chair to my sister, and then she gave it back.  I'm happy she did, because it really is pretty with all of the wood in this house!  My brother talked me into getting the couch years ago (I called him from the store!), and I am so glad he did!  We still have to patch some baseboard and put in the new windows, but the living room is cozy.

We moved this table the other direction for Andrew's party, and I may leave it!  It's the perfect spot to eat and hang out.  It works better for us than more living room furniture!

The dining room is only painted, so it won't show up on here until we do more to it!

Pete sent me this picture one day at work and said that Lucy had ruined Christmas!  We were in the middle of decorating, so there were boxes everywhere.  Somewhere in the world, it thundered; and she heard it!  She gets so nervous and starts pacing.  He said knocking over the Christmas tree didn't scare her - just the thunder.  I had to make two trips to the Cornerstone in Boone to replace a couple of ornaments that broke!

This is the only picture of the guest bedroom so far!  It has a big white bed that Sam and Pete put together that takes up almost the whole room.  I ordered some bedding from Garnet Hill last year on clearance that looks like Holly Hobbie and seems to fit the character of this house.  We hope it will be the sweetest and coziest guest room of all.  Now to just add those bathrooms upstairs...We've worked on Sam's room, and he seems to like it; but we're not sure what his closet will be like after construction.  So it's on hold for now.  Our bedroom is great for sleeping, but no new furniture or bedding until construction is over.  Same for wallpaper downstairs and the stair runner.  Just trying to be patient and not redo things!

And last for this blog entry is the front door!  We picked out the kind we liked and found it the cheapest (by far!) at Home Depot.  Pete had to cut into the wall a bit to get it in.  And the old door was taller, but we can fix all of that!  It's so pretty and looks so good on the outside too!  We have not done anything to the front porch yet, but this door makes a huge difference!  And those white flower pots Russell and Cindy gave me for my birthday about 10 years ago!  The back porch was opened up, and it's one of the next projects.

Thanks for reading this blog!  I will try to update more soon with new kitchen pictures!

If you get a chance, please check out Pete's new Facebook page - Sovereign Grace Church.  It starts in March - on Easter Sunday.  Just look for this logo:

Thanks again!!!!

Isaiah 40:28-31
"Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint."
